Maui Wildfires

A Community in Crisis

In August 2023, wildfires devastated Maui—destroying much of Lahaina, claiming over 100 lives, and leveling 2,200+ structures, mostly homes. Damages exceeded $5.5 billion, displacing thousands of residents who urgently needed safe, reliable housing.

The federal government launched an initiative to provide up to 400 homes to survivors who lost their homes. Dynamic was selected as one of three contractors to provide innovative modular homes in a highly competitive procurement. This project was one of the most complex emergency housing efforts ever undertaken by the federal government. In the first phase, FEMA awarded Dynamic over 60% of the task order, delivering 107 high-quality housing units at the Kilohana Group Site in Lahaina.

Dynamic’s Role in Maui Wildfire Housing Recovery

Dynamic played a central role in Maui wildfire housing recovery, managing the full process from design to installation. Each home was:

  • Delivered to residents furnished, cleaned, and ready for immediate occupancy
  • Built for durability and energy efficiency
  • Fully compliant with FEMA, IBC, and local building codes
  • Outfitted with locally sourced solar water heaters

Overcoming Complex Challenges

Dynamic deployed a multi-disciplinary, nationwide team and executed this mission under an aggressive 129-day timeline:

  • Manufacturing: Two factories ran 6–7 days per week for eight weeks
  • Transportation: Dynamic coordinated 91 truckloads, 3 barges, and 5 ocean liners across multiple states and across the Pacific Ocean
  • Installation: Local crews prepared foundations and utility connections in advance, enabling immediate setup upon delivery. Crews of carpenters, electricians, HVAC technicians, and plumbers ensured every unit met quality and safety standards
  • Communication: Dynamic provided real-time progress updates for FEMA and USACE, allowing for effective collaboration and oversight

Despite weather disruptions and shipping delays, real-time tracking and contingency planning kept the project on schedule.

Results: Resilient Homes for Lahaina Wildfire Survivors

Dynamic delivered:

  • 107 homes installed in just 4 months
  • Zero safety incidents across 13,118 man-hours
  • FEMA leadership recognized Dynamic’s efficiency and adaptability, calling the project a model of coordination under emergency conditions.

Our contribution to the Maui wildfire housing recovery delivered stability and hope to displaced families.
